Nakajima Jozo Shiroku Yuzushu 8,5% 500ml

Nakajima Jozo Shiroku Yuzushu is one of the "gold standards" of Japanese fruit liqueurs.

Kozaemon Shiroku Yuzu is produced by Nakashima Sake Brewing in Gifu Prefecture—a brewery that’s been around since 1702, so they definitely know their way around a fermentation tank.

Quick Facts

Feature Detail
Origin Mizunami, Gifu Prefecture, Japan
Base Junmai Sake
ABV Usually around 6% (very light and easy-drinking)
Ingredients Sake, Yuzu Juice, Sugars

How to Serve It

To get the most out of it, treat it with a bit of respect (but not too much):

  1. On the Rocks: The classic way. As the ice melts, it opens up the aromatics.

  2. The "Yuzu-Gari": Mix it with a bit of soda water or even a dry sparkling wine for a high-end spritz.

  3. Warm: Surprisingly, some people enjoy it slightly warmed in the winter, though chilled is the standard.

Pro-Tip: Because it contains so much real fruit juice, sediment will settle at the bottom of the bottle. Give it a gentle shake (don't go crazy) before pouring to ensure you get all that citrus oil goodness.

Reviews

"Nancy Hachisu is...intrepid. Outrageously creative. Intensely passionate. Committed. True and real. I urge you to cook from this book with abandon, but first read it like a memoir, chapter by chapter, and you will share in the story of a modern-day family, a totally unique and extraordinary one."
