Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt

Nikka Whisky

Masataka Taketsuru

The very first Japanese whiskey maker and founder of the Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries. Pure Malt blend. This Taketsuru Pure Malt has no age indication, but it is generally assumed that it is about 10 years old. Delicious blend with a large share of sherry.

This Japanese whisky is named in honor of Masataka Taketsuru, who established Nika Whisky in 1934.

A tribute to Masataka Taketsuru, the father of Japanese whisky and founder of Nikka. This pure malt whisky is a blend of casks hailing from Nikka’s two distilleries in the north of Japan: Yoichi and Miyagikyo

COLOUR

gold with pinkish hue

NOSE

Engaging. Fresh and fruity. Freshly pressed fruit juice comes to mind, a cornucopia  of white fruit, peach notes and juicy grapes. It progressively opens up on fine amandine pastry notes, frangipane and biscuits. Italian all the way, like a panetone with raisins. The malted barley grows more present and plays off of the citrus aromas (clementine). A touch of oak and rustic notes (verbena, camomille) bring it all together.

PALATE

coffee, licorice, toasted oak, coffee grounds, a cigar slowly burning out ! Its surprising range is expressive to say the least, bordering on excessive. Vigorous, assertive and uncompromising. The peat is elusive and finds ways to assert itself without so much as a whisper.

FINISH

Licorice candy all the way. A refined bitterness quickly gives way to more integrated, medicinal aromas: camphor, eucalyptus. The finish eventually fades out on malted barley notes.

Reviews

"Nancy Hachisu is...intrepid. Outrageously creative. Intensely passionate. Committed. True and real. I urge you to cook from this book with abandon, but first read it like a memoir, chapter by chapter, and you will share in the story of a modern-day family, a totally unique and extraordinary one."
